Lawyer Pilot's Bar Association

LPBA Summer 2004 Meeting
SUNRIVER Resort
Sunriver, OR

The Summer 2004 meeting of the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association was held from July 7-11 at the Sunriver resort in Central Oregon. LPBA President Tim Miller and his wife Carolyn welcomed about 100 members and guests to their home state.

The Sunriver resort was distinctive in many respects, the one most important to our group being the onsite runway. Sunriver Airport (S21) welcomed nearly a dozen LPBA aircraft. Notable arrivals included Bob Guilford in Hawker Hunter N58MX (yes, he used the drag chute) and Ed Booth who met every conceivable cross country experience requirement by flying Piper Arrow N56EB over 3,000 miles from Florida.

Our CLE presentations were diverse and interesting, covering topics that ranged from legal ethics, aircraft maintenance, air carrier safety audits, wire strike litigation and the hazards of helicopter logging. Thanks are due Marty Weiss for his fine job of arranging the programs, and to presenters, Steven L. Myers, S. Jon Trachta, Bill Wimsatt, Hal Hitchcock, Robert Hedrick, Franklin Smith, Gary Allen, Richard Norat and John L. Hancock.

Spot landing took place at the resort airport, with Gary Evans and twin Commander N799CE again taking first prize. A record seven aircraft competed, including Tim Miller in Bonanza N36HL, Jack McNamara in Aztec N7294P, Bill Wimsatt in Bonanza N9074Q, Richard Damon in Bonanza N321DS, Ed Booth in Arrow N56EB and Richard Creighton in Baron N67ER.

Other activities included white water rafting, golf, trap shooting, tennis, horseback riding and (dormant) volcano watching.

Our meeting concluded with an aviation themed banquet (Thanks to Carolyn Miller's great decorations) in the historic Camp Abbot Great Hall.
